"My words are Spirit and Life, and not to be weighed by the understanding of man. They are not to be drawn forth for vain approbation, but to be heard in silence, and to be received with all humility and great affection."

"We shall find, when we reach the end of life, that all which God has done, however dark and mysterious it may have appeared at the time, was so connected with our good as to make it a proper subject of praise and thanksgiving."

less than a revolution,
casting out the spirit

making God's love

General Statement from the Editor

It is a given fact that most Christian's have a favorite Author to support his or her own views, beliefs and opinions, usually about a specific subject. In fact, most of us are quite dogmatic about specific subjects or doctrines and become very aggressive when opposed. Though I have been careful about the selection of Author's on my list, I know not everyone will agree with every writer, teacher or preacher I have included, you may even believe some to be rebels, fanatics, and mystics.

However, with the careful study of history, you will find that most who have stood strong for Christ have been labeled as either a rebel, fanatic, mystic, or even a heretic somewhere along the line, usually from within the Church itself, Jesus Himself said they would (Matthew 5:11).  I personally believe that the men and women whom I have used on this website have given much to the advancement of the Kingdom of God, and should that same quality of holiness and zeal live in us today, we would certainly see the world turned upside down again.

Recommended Messages and Articles

I am also careful to recommend specific messages and articles to those visiting The Old Time Gospel, those who are of "like precious faith". John said to, "...try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world." (I John 4:1) Though I may not agree with every statement or interpretation of scripture given by these, nor doubtless will you, the writings as a whole are well worth our study and meditation. You can view my selected sermon list here.

I am aware of the scripture that says, "a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump", however unless the Author's teaching as a whole is completely heretical, "we don't throw out the baby with the bath water", in a manner of speaking. For instance, you may not agree completely with every word an Author says about one subject but may agree whole-heartedly with what he says about another. Do we discard the Author because we don't totally agree on the interpretation of one scripture or subject? Understand, I'm not talking about blatant disregard for sound doctrine or twisting of scripture, but rather remembering the words of Jesus in Mark 9:38-40 "he that is not against us is on our part".

For example, I work with a Christian man who believes in the gap theory, I strongly disagree with that theory yet we still walk together in the wonderful fellowship of Christ agreeing on most every other subject. Fact is, if you talk with any man long enough about scripture, you will be an island all to yourself because not everyone agrees on every subject of the Bible. Paul warned, "they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise." (II Corinthians 10:12).

None of us has reached the pinnacle of Biblical understanding and may even be surprised when we stand before Christ and find that which we had become so dogmatic about was partially or even completely in error. We have much to glean from one another, or as Christ said, "If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?" (I Corinthians 12:17). We are all pressing towards the things of God; we are all at different levels of learning and spiritual maturity yet ever seeking the Lord.

It is up to us to discern the truth through much study of scripture, by His Holy Spirit and prayer, and yes, through the patient fellowship of the brethren. "Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name." Malachi 3:16

Recommended Books and Websites

There are only a few solid Christian books of old that truly adhere to scripture and deserve the attention of the child of God. Here are a few of those writings that truly breathe of holiness; I highly recommend reading these books. The Old Time Gospel does not necessarily endorse or defend the Author or theological/doctrinal views promoted in these books; however, they are excellent sources for researching the Bible. The same is true with the websites I have recommended which you can view here. May these books and websites bless you as they have blessed me.

The Bible is our final authority and key to discerning. Today Christian bookstores are lined with how-to-do/be books, as if the Bible were insufficient to instruct the soul in holiness and right relation with the Almighty. Peter said that, "According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him..." (II Peter 1:3-4) In Peter's day, it was all in the Torah and the teaching of the elders, everything a man needed to draw near to God. Today, we have the complete mind of God toward man in the Bible. The Word, which is the knowledge of God, "changeth not", therefore the need for how-to books is at best misleading.

Personal Statement from the Editor

The Old Time Gospel is a non-commercial self supported ministry, we do not ask for donations, nor do we sell any products or generate any income. Though I do recommend some great Christian books, these must be purchased at a book store of your choice.

Material on my site which does not have a copyright notice may be considered in the public domain. However, the design and HTML codeing of The Old Time Gospel is my own work, please respect the long hours I have labored. Any other copyrighted material should be clearly marked as such, and is subject to the usual, legal regulations. For more information, see Copyrights and the Fair Use Provision.

I have tried to be extremely careful to include only material which is in the public domain. This includes material which pre-dates copyright laws, and material whose copyright has expired. (In the United States, material dated 1922 or earlier is usually in the public domain; other countries' laws may vary.) In some cases, I could not fully trace the origin of some material used, but due to its source, believe it to be in the public domain. If I have inadvertently included a work with a copyright still in force, please let me know and I will remove it immediately. If any copyright infringement has occurred, it was unintentional.

I am a strong supporter of the King James Bible, believing it to be the only Bible translated accurately in the english language. You will find however, that inorder to honor the original writers and/or copyright laws, other bible versions are used throughout this site.
