We are more than conquerors
through him that loved us.

Romans 8:37

"The enemy is behind us.
The enemy is in front of us.
The enemy is to the right
and the left of us.
They can't get away this time!"

General Douglas McArthur

"My words are Spirit and Life, and not to be weighed by the understanding of man. They are not to be drawn forth for vain approbation, but to be heard in silence, and to be received with all humility and great affection."
Thomas à Kempis

Read the
Bible in a Year

"Brethren, we must preach
the doctrines;
we must emphasize
the doctrines;
we must go back to
the doctrines.

I fear that the new generation does not know the doctrines
as our fathers knew them."

John A. Broadus

Noah's Ark

The difference between Justification and Sanctification

Justification refers to my status; sanctification to my state.

Justification is about God's attitude to me changing; sanctification is about God changing me.

Justification is about how God looks on me; sanctification is about what he does in me.

Justification is about Christ dying for my sins on the cross; sanctification is about Christ at work in me by the Holy Spirit changing my life.

The Reformers were careful to distinguish the two-but not to separate them One cannot have the one without the other-as with the heat and light of the sun. The sun gives out heat and light. These two cannot be separated. When the sun shines there is both heat and light; yet they are distinct and not to be confused. We are not warmed by the sun's light nor illuminated by its heat.

Biblical Helps

Plants of the Bible
•   Thorns are usually woody plants, such as Acacia, Lycium, Ononis, Prosopis, Rubus, Sarcopoterium, while thistles are herbaceous, such as Centaurea, Notobasis, Silybum. The latter could have been the 'thorns' that suffocated the grain in Jesus' parable (Matt. 13:7).

The Biblical Fast
•   Fasting has been out of vogue for at least 150 years. In the twentieth century church, the idea seems alien to us. God's Word assumes that fasting will be a regular part of a Christian's life. If we were to make a study of fasting in the Bible most of us would find ourselves very challenged about this neglected area of Christian discipline.

Gustave Doré Gallery
•   Refered to as an "Artist of the People" by Vincent van Gogh, Gustave Doré was the greatest illustrator in history.

The Scripture Alphabet of Animals
•   "Every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains; and the wild beasts of the field are mine."   Psalms 50:10,11

Biblical Numerology
•   One of the interesting features of Hebrew and Greek is that in both written languages there are no numeric characters. Where we have numbers and letters, they have only letters. So, in each language, the letters are also used as numbers. In a small way we do the same thing in English.

The Spiritual Significance of Numbers
•   The spiritual significance of numbers is evident throughout the Word of God. It is said that, one out of every five Scriptures in the Bible contains a number. If this is so, then it is vitally important to understand God's meaning in His use of numbers throughout the scriptures.

Creation Topics
